- search for profit to long-term goals inspired by dedication to
- America's future.

- Most kids think people who are good at math or science are
- nerds. One way to transfer the thrill of competition to science
- is through fairs. These activities stimulate long-term interest
- in the sciences. They are run by volunteers and don't depend on
- fickle federal policy or even on in-school instruction. They
- provide students with hands-on scientific experience (not just
- memorization) and allow recognition for achievement.
